• The benefits of the contract under which the inspection report is provided is for the exclusive use of the named client. No third party may use or rely upon any information contained within the report. Unless instructions to the contrary have been given by the named client, no details noted during the inspection or information subsequently produced in the report content will be disclosed to any third party.

• Assignments are normally undertaken within 48 hours of receipt of a written instruction.

• An invoice in respect of the engineers fees will be raised upon completion of the assignment which is due upon presentation.

• It is presumed that the engineer will be granted unrestricted access to the vehicle along with all parts and components relating to the failure.

• It is frequently requested that the engineer determines the cause of failure solely on the basis of components submitted. It is important that all evidence available is supplied and that no evidence is destroyed. Components should be identified wherever possible in terms of their previous location in the unit concerned. Rings should not be removed from pistons without good reason. Components should be laid out in a regular order during dismantling particularly if an unexpected failure has occurred. Items should not be cleaned as this may remove important clues. It is also important that components and debris are stored in clean conditions even if they carry oil and residue from an engine so as to avoid cross contamination with foreign materials.

• In the case of general inspections, these are exception reports and may only be undertaken under controlled workshop conditions using dedicated facilities especially to gain access to the vehicle underside. Only items accessible at the time of inspection will be examined. No inspection of component internals will be carried out (e.g. clutch assemblies, engine internals, gearbox internals etc.)

• In many circumstances a road test is necessary as part of the inspection process. Road testing is carried out provided the vehicle has a current MOT test certificate and no defects have been identified which would affect the roadworthiness of the vehicle. Road testing is normally carried out with the driver (the engineer) only in the vehicle and statutory speed limits and traffic regulations adhered to.

• Should the vehicle be situated outdoors and for any reason is unable to be moved, the inspection will be restricted accordingly and hence this will be reflected in the report content. Similarly, adverse weather conditions may prohibit an inspection from proceeding.

• Under no circumstances will trolley jacks be used to access the underside of a vehicle. In the absence of a suitable vehicle hoist, the underside of a vehicle(s) will not be inspected.

• Vehicle(s) may be inspected at residential addresses only under exceptional circumstances.

• Should the vehicle be absent for any reason on attendance at the inspection venue, the full inspection fee will be levied.

• If an inspection instruction is cancelled at short notice, a proportion of the inspection fee will be levied.

• Inspections are of an external visual nature. No parts or components are removed or dismantled by the Engineer.

• Where test equipment is used, the relevant information will be supplied in the report with regard to the source, type and specification of the test / measuring instrument(s) used along with calibration data and traceability to National Accredited Standards.

• The report contents and findings do not constitute any form of guarantee or warranty.

• No assessment of non-visible components can be given, and, if servicing or remedial work is recommended, no responsibility will be accepted for defects revealed that were unable to be identified due to the constraints of a visual inspection.

• On completion of the assignment, the report will be forwarded to the client by 1st class post, telefax or e-mail. In the case of expert witness reports, these will be delivered via secure post or courier.

• We do not provide verbal reports under any circumstances.
